Tunisia: the country with the largest number of accredited associations for EVS

Steering Committee, Training Course for Mentors and “On Arrival" Training course for young Europeans in EVS in Tunisia and Algeria

On the sidelines of the training course for mentor and responsible of project in EVS (Euro-Mediterranean Voluntary Service) organized by the Euromed Youth Unit (EMYU) of Tunisia, in cooperation with SALTO Youth EuroMed Resource Centre in Hammamet from the 20th to 25th of July 2015, a mid-term review meeting of the Steering Committee was held on the 21st of July.

The meeting had the following objectives:

  • To present an inventory and evaluate the activities carried out in the first semester of 2015
  • To discuss the activities planned for the rest of 2015
  • To plan activities of 2016

It was marked by the richness and interest of the exchanges that have taken place and which were about the consequences of the attack of Sousse and its impact on the program.

During and after the steering committee, the training course for mentor and responsible of project in EVS was supervised by four trainers (two Europeans, a Tunisian and an Algerian), with 31 beneficiaries from 12 Tunisian associations and 7 Algerian associations. This is the second course; the first was organized last year from the 9th to 14th June 2014.

Alongside this course, a training of European volunteers who do their EVS projects in Tunisia and Algeria in the framework of Erasmus + Youth was held until the 24th of July.
This training, provided by an EVS trainer from Italy appointed by SALTO Youth EuroMed, had as general objective, the preparation for the arrival of volunteers in hosting associations.

Tunisia is the country that has the largest number of accredited associations within EVS and this second internship will potentially bring the total to 25 accredited associations: which means that these associations were considered suitable for hosting European volunteers and sending Tunisian volunteers in Europe.
This is clearly an indicator of the excellent work carried out by the Tunisian EMYU.
